About Marlene Young Nungurrayi

In 1970, Marlene Young Nungurrayi was born. Her tribe is Pintupi, Tommy Lowry Tjapaltjarri is her biological father, and her adopted father is the well-known Doctor George Tjapaltjarri. These relatives are linked to a number of well-known musicians, including Nosepeg Tjupurrula, Fred Ward Tjungurrayi, and Turkey Tolson.

Marlene's work has been featured in national exhibitions across Australia, and her work is kept in private collections both here and internationally.

Design Inspiration

Marlene's traditional style paintings are highly sought after as they portray her land and sacred women's locations between her native communities. At these spots, her people would have major ceremonies and recount stories about their ancestors who would stop to rest, sing, and dance.
